Chris Jericho - Greatest WWF/E Matches

Jericho v. Benoit - March 2000

After facing off a handful of times in Japan and WCW, finally Jericho and Benoit had a nice, lengthy feud once they both reached WWF. These two were made to wrestle one another.

Jericho v. HHH - April 2000

The night Jericho defeated HHH for the WWF Title. The crowd seemed to go nuts for this, and I was quite sorry to see them turn the belt back over to HHH.

The continuation of their feud, over the IC Title. These two had several classic matches, on TV and PPV. This one being no exception.

Jericho v. RVD - September 2001

A brief encounter between these two, in ECW, left me wanting more. Once Rob Van Dam arrived in WWF, he and Jericho were drawn together and displayed that they had great chemistry in the ring. They would go on to wrestle many other singles and tag team matches, from 2001-2003, though never really seeming to be in a high-profile feud.

Jericho v. Rock - October 2001

Jericho finally wins the big one; he becomes WCW World Champion. At this point, he was leaning toward being a heel, or at least a serious face. This was one of my favorite eras for him. It only got better from there...

Jericho v. Rock - December 2001

Part one of the greatest night in Jericho's career. He regains the WCW World Title from The Rock and goes directly into his match with Austin.

Jericho v. Austin - December 2001

Decent match with Austin, seeing Jericho win the WWF Title and become the Undisputed World Heavyweight Champion.

Jericho v. Benoit - February 2005

For no real reason, these two were paired up as a team, then had a couple singles matches together, with little mention of the feud they had during 2000-2001. This was in Japan. Probably the best WWE match of 2005, in my opinion.

Jericho v. Rock - January 2002

For the first time in his career, Jericho enters a PPV as the defending Undisputed World Champion. Winning the title was a big enough deal, but defending it, beating the Rock once more, cemented his place and should have proven that he was no fluke champion.

Jericho v. Michaels - April 2003

What can be said about this match? Jericho took Michaels to the limit, and both men had one of the greatest WM bouts ever.

Classic ladder match for the IC Title, the culmination of a year-long feud.

Jericho v. RVD - December 2001

This match really got my hopes up. Jericho and Van Dam began 'feuding' shortly after RVD arrived in WWF. I guess it was kind of a side thing. Once Jericho became the Undisputed Champion, I was dying for him to feud with RVD and this seemed to be the beginnings of that. I heard that these two were supposed to face off at the Royal Rumble. That would have been an epic match, I'm sure. In all honesty, I think RVD should have been the one to dethrone Jericho, instead of HHH, but I think Summerslam 2002 would have been the best time for it.

Jericho v. Flair - August 2002

Here's yet another match that would have really helped Jericho, had he won. He certainly carried the match. Y2J would later go on to avenge this loss, but missing the big win on such an important PPV was something he couldn't get back. Again, a few key matches could have kept Jericho relevant and in the main event picture, after he lost the Undisputed Title. Flair laid down for everyone else, yet Jericho wasn't good enough to go over him, on this night. More than likely, he was just honoured to be in the ring with "The Nature Boy", but Flair definitely did not need this win. Thankfully, Jericho did redeem himself, a month later, at Unforgiven; however, that's not quite the same as getting the victory at Summerslam, one of the premiere PPVs of the year.

Jericho v. Flair - September 2002

And here Jericho gets his win back, so to speak. It wasn't one of the big four, but it still happened on PPV. He successfully defended his IC TItle against "The Dirtiest Player in the Game" and made him tap out.

I often thought, back then, that Flair would have been good in the role of advisor to Jericho. Instead of HHH and Evolution, Flair could have been aligned with Jericho and 'coached' him on his was back to the top of the ladder. I don't know. Six years later, I still think it wouldn't have been a bad idea.

At any rate, this much was definitely going better than their first encounter, though it got cut a little short. Jericho's brilliant heel tactics enabled him to outsmart Flair and walk away with the gold. He may have lost the first one, but he got the last laugh.
